Close the door. Turn the page. The party's over. The fat lady has sung. Turn off the lights.  It's finally over. Finito.

The FSU Athletic Department announced earlier that they have determined that Florida State University will vacate 12 wins in football, 22 wins in men's basketball, a NCAA post season baseball victory, one national championship in men's track and field, a NCAA tournament victory in women's basketball, as well as other wins in these and several other men's and women's sports.

This vacation-of-wins penalty is the result of the 2006-2007 academic misconduct case that was self-reported to the NCAA by then FSU President T.K. Wetherell, which is believed to have been done in an effort to embarrass then athletic director Dave Hart and as retaliation for rightfully forcing the "resignation" of Jeff Bowden, and which then brought about the subsequent NCAA investigation and sanctions.

The NCAA Committee on Infractions accepted all of FSU's self-imposed penalties of probation and scholarship reductions in the 10 sports in which 61 student-athletes were implicated in the wide spread fraud involving an online Music Appreciation course.  In addition to the self-imposed penalties, the NCAA then also ordered that FSU vacate any and all wins in which those student-athletes, which the NCAA deemed ineligible, participated in during that time frame.

Then, FSU's former president decided to further tarnish and further drag through the mud FSU's good name, and keep this unfortunate scandal at the full attention of the national media, by appealing the vacation-of-wins penalty in order to preserve Bobby Bowden's wins and to give him a chance to catch Joe Paterno for the most-football-wins title.  A subsequent hearing was then held by Appeals Committee and FSU's appeal was denied and rejected.  Pressure from boosters and common sense finally prevailed, and the outgoing president finally did the right thing and let this miserable chapter in FSU history come to a merciful end by not taking this matter any further with legal action in the courts, as he had previously threatened he would do if the appeal was lost.

Since losing the NCAA appeal, the athletic department has been trying to determine in which games the ineligible student-athletes participated and how many wins each of the Florida State sports teams involved would vacate.

It had been estimated that the football team and Bobby Bowden would lose as many as 14 wins, however the final tally has the team and Bowden only losing 12 victories, which in Bowden's case is now a moot point in the most-football-wins race with Paterno.

Listed below is what the FSU Athletic Department determined to be the official count of vacated wins for each sport.

TGIO=THANK GOD IT'S OVER

A recap of what went down and what you should take away from the week in college football.

It's been a pretty dead week as it relates to college football news. Not that it was unexpected during Conference Championship Week. The big news of the week was what some perceive as another flip flop from a certain Gator coach, some recruiting/Twitter news and the latest Kiffin-hating media out of Tennessee.

Recapping the week in 500 words or less, this is what we learned:

  • What is going on with Urban Meyer? Your guess is as good as his at this point. Apparently after resigning, taking an indefinite leave of absence and defining 'indefinite' as before the beginning of the season, Meyer now expects to be ready to coach spring practice when it begins on St. Paddy's Day. According to the Gainesville Sun, Meyer has stated, "I'm going to have a series of tests in February to try to figure this thing out...I have to take some time off. I've been instructed to by my bride and my boss. I have to change some things. That's obvious." I joke, but the guy should do whatever is best for him.
  • The NCAA should update its recruiting rules for the 21st Century. In the latest sleazy recruiting move, Florida State offensive coordinator James Coley has turned to Twitter to trash in-state rival Miami, replacing the world 'you' with 'U' in his tweets, presumably in reference to Miami's nickname, 'The U'. Clever, I know. Some of his tweets include:

- "Setting MY schedule for next WEEK - can U handle what's COMING your way?"
- "mission accomplished - I thought I told U - FEAR THE SPEAR!!!!" (after reports surfaced [trustworthy or not] around the Internet that four star defensive end
Corey Lemonier will eventually sign with the Seminoles over the Hurricanes)
- "Hottest team in the COUNTRY - SWAG? PRONTO!!!!!!" (in reference to Miami's famous swagger of the 80s and early 90s)
- "Make no mistake... this is MY-ami - i walk, i talk, i think 305... U just live here"

Besides plagiarizing some lame motivational day calendar ("DOMINANT", "RELENTLESS", "UNCONQUERED"), Coley proved that he doesn't understand the fierce but respectful rivalry that Miami and FSU have forged over the years. Seminole nation should be embarrassed by their classless new OC, especially when you consider their legendary coach made sure he was a role model to his players. It's surprising that so many recruits have followed this loud little lap dog to Tallahassee.

  • Don't forget: Signing Day is February 3. The highest rated uncommitted recruit, offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson, will make one final official visit to Miami (I know there's football outside the state of Florida) before making his announcement on Signing Day. He's narrowed his list down to Florida, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma and USC.
  • Five-star running back Marcus Lattimore has narrowed his college choices to two. GamecockCentral.com spoke with Lattimore who told them, "It's just South Carolina and Auburn." Meanwhile, the nation's top linebacker recruit, Jordan Hicks has his choices narrowed down to Florida, Ohio State and Texas.
  • I don't think Tennessee is over losing Lane Kiffin. The song is credited to The Chris Vernon Show out of Memphis, although I have no idea who made the video.
  • In other coaching news, Arizona OC Sonny Dykes was named head coach of Louisiana Tech, while Louisiana Tech head coach Derek Dooley is headed to Tennessee.

Stay tuned for the latest recruiting, coaching and draft news and analysis as it becomes available.

I hope everybody enjoyed the Conference Championship games yesterday. Congratulations to the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints. I hope Super Bowl XLIV is as good as the previous two. - Danny Hobrock
